5th Business Students' Summit (Tagaytay City)

“E-Business: Changing the Industry Landscape” the theme of the 5^th Business Students’ Summit held at Tolentino Sports and Activity Center in Sungay West, Tagaytay City last August 26, 2011. Think of leisure and education at the same time and think about the climate of Tagaytay City.

A great experienced and a great chance for everyone who attended the seminar held in the second summer capital city of the Philippines and the city of smiles, Tagaytay City. New learning has been added again in our young mind. Opening ourselves in electronic business at the very young age is one way on how people see young generation like us, successful in the future. And most especially a summit that is very much related to the course we are taking- Business and Computer Management.
We can never forget the performance of the all boys group from Tagaytagy City Colleges, words that describe their performance, “nabuhay ang katawang lupa namen”. Everyone at the Sports Center shouted when they saw the performance of the group.

Representing the College of Business Administration, we gave food to our beloved colleagues from our university.

Even though we came late in the seminar we still got the chance to represents our university, Emerald Castillo from Business Administration in Marketing Management won secretary position in this Seminar’s Election who will represents our school in Region 4A. Presidential position for Batangas is given to Rochelle Chua from Colegio ng Lungsod ng Lipa.

Seminar might be boring in some other way but we can never forget the bonding we had inside the bus while we are travelling on the way to our route. Seeing the beauty of the Tagaygay City again is the most relaxing part of being a Lycean. Even though the haggard days in school are always coming our ways, we still have given the chance to enjoy in just a short time. We enjoyed the walk at the picnic grove and a walk feeling that “hey! God!  Thank you, I’m alive!” 

A great leisure and education experienced and total bond. 

MSAW and Inter-Department Academic Contest 2011

LIMA! LIMA! LIMA! LIMA! LIMA! LIMA! Viva Lima! Who would expect that boys can give pride for their colleges? The normal expectations that boys don’t take everything serious and here they are they won the prizes and take note, they are the overall champion in the MSAW and Inter-Department Academic Contest 2011 last August 23-24, 2011. Maybe, the loudest crowd give courage in their dearest LIMA?

It might be the best and most tiring MSAW we ever experienced, assisting the committee and judges are the things we enjoyed the most. Even though we do tiring and unexpected things but we had the chance to serve those prestigious people of our university. We gave foods and drinks for the committee; we waited long at our department to serve the best food for them. 

MSAW and Inter-Department Academic Contest show how a world class Lycean can compete to the world. We are truly proud that every college in our university exert more effort in training their best students. Lyceans are the best, we take the lead!

Be proud to the winners in different category, Poem Recitation Contest, first place from College of Education, Arts and Sciences, Mr. Von Michael C. Umahon. Extemporaneous Speech represented by a very good speaker from College of International and Hospitality Management Sabrina Louise Gayoso together with her co-CITHM Marleen Nicole Cardasto  who recited very well the Vision-Mission of our dearest University. Essay Writing Contest and IT Quiz from the College of Computer Sciences, Choral Recitation from the ALLIED department, Lyceum Hymn from College of Nursing, General Information from the smartest LIMA and be proud of Crystal Gayle G. Rosales from College of Business Administration by winning the first place in Poster Making Contest.

Lycean’s Commitment to Save the Earth (August 25, 2011)

The Junior Association of E-business Administration actively joined the Ecological Forum last August 25,2011 held  at SHL building, Freedom Hall, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas from 12:30 noon to 5:00 pm. The forum was conducted by OSA (Office of the Student Affairs). Different organizations of the University participates on the said activity. Before the activity begin, they presented a video regarding environment, followed by a prayer, national anthem and the Lyceum Hymn.

            Mrs. Flora V. Javier, VPSP, gave her welcome address followed by Mrs. Esmenia R. Javier, the Executive Vice President, with her inspirational talked. The first speaker was Mrs. Luisa Magboo-Garcia who discussed about the Role of PENRO in the implementation of PD 156, implementation of R.A. No. 1586, 6969, 8479 and R.A. No. 9003. She also focused on discussing Clean Water Act (R.A. No. 9275).

The second speaker was Dr. Dexter R. Buted, the Dean of LIMA, his speech was all about on the garbage disposal and Environmental Costal clean up. The third was Mr. Mon Araneta talked about Isla Verde passage. He also presented a video in which, its highlight was the difference between the conditions of the underwater environment of Isla Verde from before up to present.

The last speaker was Mr. Luis A. Awitan, who refreshes the mind of the students about what happened a couple of months ago-the Fishkill in Taal, Batangas. He stated some of the reasons why these problems occurred.  The forum was ended up to the students who wrote their commitment in the environment in a piece of paper. Then they    put it in the pot together with the stone which contain their name.

The ecological forum is indeed a great forum which wakens up the mind of Lyceans to save the earth and have environmental awareness. Being members of this society, it enlightened our mind to show our affection in the environment and deeply cherish the blessings that are all showered to us.

Community Extension Program (August 19 and 26, 2011)

We conducted our community extension program / tutorial in Malalim Elementary School, Malalim, Batangas City last August 19, 2011 and August 26, 2011 respectively from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Our objective is to enhance the knowledge and skills of kindergarten pupils through tutorials with the help of all the JAEBA officers and volunteer members.

The first thing that had happened when we got there was Ms. Lovely Joy Ebora, the in-charge teacher introduced us to the 19 pupils of kindergarten. All of them greeted us warmly wearing their sweet smiles on their faces. We are really impressed to the children for the politeness and good behavior they had showed to us. We felt very welcome to their class room.

We started our tutorials by letting the pupils lead the prayer and sing their greeting song. After that, we made a short orientation to the pupils of our purpose why we are there and what are our expectations. During the orientation, they were silently listening to us showing that they were really interested. We can see the excitement and enjoyment on their faces. We introduced our selves one-by-one and asked the children to stand-up in front to introduce themselves as well. We gave each one of them colorful name tags and school supplies such as notebooks, pencils, eraser, sharpener, paper and envelope that they will be using throughout the session. Subsequently, we ask them to follow the morning exercise that we prepared. Luckily all of them are following with us. After the exercise, we started our activities such as story-telling, letter-writing, coloring and identifying different shapes, arranging jumbled numbers, identifying five-senses and illustrating their family through drawing. In group activities, each member of the group proved their cooperativeness and friendliness to each other. We also prepared games for the children such as Bring Me; The Boat is Sinking and Tanging Hininga Mo. At the end of every activities and games, we are giving them prizes that motivate them to join in all the activities and perform well. All throughout the session, children showed their alertness and enthusiasm in learning. It was really amazing to know that at their very young age, they were awfully active and fast-learners. Beside the activities and games, we also gave them foods during the snack-time.

The teacher said that the children learned a lot from the tutorials and they were really glad to have this kind of program for it truly helps the children. It serves as the assistance for the school in teaching as well as in forming the character of the pupils.  We successfully carried out the kindergarten tutorials.

Batangas City Day: 42nd Sublian Festival

      It was July 23, 2011, Saturday. Witnessing hundreds or maybe thousands of people attended the 42^nd Sublian Festival in Batangas City. It’s very overwhelming being part of one of the coolest festival in the city of Batangas. We’ve witnessed the tiring walk from municipality of Batangas and roamed around the city seeing lots of institutions that were built for the long years of Batangas City’s existence. 

As one of the activity we need to accomplished, we experienced the long walk for one and half hour in the city. We saw people who patiently waiting until the parade has come to their places. Everyone who joined the parade wears their oh-so-beautiful filipinianas and barongs that made the parade successful and enjoyed by everyone (people who have watched and walked). As we walk through the big city of Batangas, we experienced a drizzling sound of the rain that made our walk more exciting. We took pictures of our happy memories and unforgettable experienced while walking and watched by thousands of unknown people.

 The 42^nd Batangas City Foundation Day was attended by Marian Rivera, known as “Amaya” in one of the GMA 7 shows. This Festival was having watched at the Kapuso Network (GMA 7). Honestly, we never had the chance to see Marian Rivera personally but we ended the parade happy and enjoyed.

    Different organizations of Lyceum participated as well as institutions and business establishment personnel.  The parade was represented by the students, employees, professionals, known people and a lot more. Some who participates the parade have been so busy decorating their float for this celebration. Not being so boastful, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas stands out by showing how decorative Lyceans are, the float that captured everyone’s attentions which is so simple yet it so elegant. 

     The 42^nd Batangas City Foundation Day is a success and indeed a start of new beginning for another successful festival in Batangas City.

Leadership Training Camp

Many were called but few are chosen. This quotation definitely fits the leadership training camp which was participated by different student leaders among recognized student organizations of Lyceum of the Philippines University Batangas, held at Brgy. San Sebastian, Mataas na Kahoy, Galilee Place Resort and facilitated by AIB Training events Consulting.

The camp recognizes all leaders of different organizations through a thorough training and giving impact to show each one’s responsibilities and capabilities. All leaders were gathered at LPU gate on August 6, 2011, 6:00 am. Everyone was divided into five teams namely red, black, blue, white and green. The trip to Galilee Resort lasts for one and half hour. During the journey, each group were given chances to talk and know each other. At the time of arrival the students are gathered in a hall to listen to Mr. Jesus Francisco Villamor IV on his talk about etiquette in the workplace. After the talk everyone was enlightened on how they can have a proper etiquette while in their respective workplace. Moreover, Mr. Al Ian Barcelona, the managing director of AIB Training Events and Consulting Co. discussed the leadership 101, foundations and qualifications. Afterwards, leaders eat together and shared all the foods prepared in the table.          The activities became a friendly competition with the different games to test teamwork, cooperation and most especially leadership.

Early in the morning of August 7, all were assembled in the hall for new activities. Each team were given time to participate in making a memorable frame on how the leadership camp is all about and what did they experienced or find out. One representative explained the concept of their work. It was then followed by sharing on what happened in the camp and what realizations each participant had.

The leadership camp is indeed full of happy memories that each leader will reminisce. It will then be a reminder on how they will use the knowledge they got. Everyone will greatly find out the impact of leadership towards teamwork and excellence. And to end the event, all agreed on what Henry Ford said, “Coming together is the beginning, keeping together is progress and working together is success.”

LEADERSHIP SEMINAR (at Freedom Hall)

It all started being with God. Before the Leadership seminar in LPU SHL Freedom started, a mass was conducted to start the day with God and thank Him for all the blessings He always give and guidance He provides.

How will you describe a seminar? Normally, students will describe a seminar like; it’s boring, I didn’t understand a thing and blah blah blah for negative attributes for a seminar. But this seminar is different for us and for hundreds of aspiring leaders of our country. This is not as similar compare to any other seminar which doesn’t entertain their audiences.

Seeing the audiences enjoying their stay and absorbing learning that were given by those speakers are the proof that this is the seminar we all want to witness. Who cannot forget Mr. Al Ian Barcelona, who makes the seminar not boring for everyone? We like how he strike jokes and we all can ride in his young mind. He is such an effective speaker for us. He motivates us in his own way. He is the best speaker for every one of us; he changes the mood of everyone who has witnessed his unforgettable learning.

We can always recall the entertainment of Mr. Cornel BongCo leaning us his yoyo collection. Mr. Jesus Francisco Villamor IV, who is so good-looking and very smart, introduces Image Management to us.  We’ve learned a lot from this Leadership Seminar. We not just entertained but we totally absorb the learning of being a good leader. The right attitude and the right impact to our people, for us, we are thankful that we are given a chance to serve everyone.  As a success, we thank LSSC for giving an opportunity to give us more facts and information for us to be a good leader not just for our university but maybe, for our nation.

JEP CAMP 2011

Rain or shine the contest must be done! July 25, 2011 the Grand Opening for English Camp 2011 with the theme “Cultivating English Language Proficiency for Enhanced Communication Skills among Lyceans.” The event aims to cultivate awareness in the importance of English Language for communication skills develop confidence in using the English Language for communication and to promote English Language proficiency among Lyceans.

    Even if a super typhoon cools the whole week, the contest was still hot and fiery as it went and got done fighting all the hindrances. The typhoon doesn’t stop the students to show what they’ve got. Moreover, faculty and admin staffs of different colleges prove that they are also aware of great impact of English proficiency. There are several categories included for the English Camp week; the English Grammar/Structure Test, Spelling Bee and Lyceans Lord and Lady English (test of confidence and ability to speech and in English).

      July 29, 2011, Friday, is the start of English Camp main event. At exactly 9:00 am at Arsenio “Dodjie” Laurel Gymanasium the programme for the English Camp 2011 started. It begins with LPU prayer followed by our National Anthem and Lyceum Hymn. We’ve hear the inspiring words from two of respective professionals of our University, Dr. Esmenia R. Javier and Prof. Chona D. Andal. After those inspiring words from the two respective people the host introduces the judges and the contest starts with the Spelling Bee category participated by those Lyceum students with English subjects. Each college represented by two of their students. It’s funny to know that even our respectable professors can join in this kind of competition. Our College of Business Administration was represented by our students and faculty from different courses.

       Competitions are competition. There are winners and there are losers. Like Jochelle Untalan and Anna Margarita Agulo who represents the BSBCM. Although they did not win in the contest, they are still winners for our org because they are able to prove that we can also show how good we are in English. Moreover, Virome Dimasacat (Lord of English 2011) and Arvin Caguitla (winner in structure test) proudly presents the CBA as champions for any contest. .

     This English Camp 2011  is a success not only for the College of Education, Arts and Sciences but a success for every Lyceans for a well developed communication and confidence using English Language.
